With three partnerships and installation, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas were amongst the key protagonists of the Salone del Mobile.
The Italian architects and designers, work mates and life for over 25 years, are presented at the international event with mirrors, lamps and chairs unique design, plus a marble structure that tells the mineral world.
Zonca Lights
The Zonca stand reinforced the concept behind the lamp: it has the potential to be used en masse to create an installation, sculpture or luminous path.
The idea was to give the public an emotional experience through colour, which led to the design of three dark rooms.
The central room housed a suspended cloud-like installation whose colour slowly shifted between various cool and warm tones.
.
In the other room, coloured lamps were applied to the wall.
The series of lamps “Candy Collection” designed by the Fuksas (s) for Zonca start from a geometrical design, a jewel box composed of twelve pentagonal faces that make up the structure of each lamp.
.
The final space was conceived as a forest filled with hanging lamps in different colours.
The “Candy lamps” are composed of twelve pentagonal faces of metal that alternate solids and voids in metal parts microforate.
It can give rise to an installation, a sculpture, a light path through this series of coloured lamps designed to be joined together, overlapping, set between them to create an always original lamp.
The series is completed with a variant for directing the beam of light, a stylised pentagonal prism that can be embedded on each lamp.

Turkish Marble
“Asia” for the exhibition “Bathing in Light” at the Art Garden of Superstudio Più, Via Tortona.
The architectural structure of marble transforms the exhibition space into a mineral structure, catalyzing experience.
Massimiliano and Doriana chose the black marble for the flooring and the side walls and the white one for the body, a precious chain of dodecahedrons that rises from the ground, as if to draw strength from it.
“The goal was to highlight the aesthetic and functional characteristics of marble and at the same time bring the audience to a different experience in the use of this valuable material.” Says the architect.
“In concept, the architectural symbol changes the exhibition space into a mineral structure. Black marble for the flooring and the side walls, and particularly bright white marble, for the body of the installation.”
“A precious concatenation of dodecahedra in white marble is lifted from the ground, as if to draw strength.
From a perspective point of view the installation grows in height with an irregular sinusoidal pattern, almost like climbing up the black marble wall.”

Sculptural shapes geometric design, fractures, cuts and lights in shades of yellow, red and blue pulsate like a breath inside the heart of some of the elements that compose it, resulting in an artistic narration of the mineral world.

Fuksas it’s also the architect of the new Milan trade fair:
The Milan Trade Fair was not only a big project for the Milan region – its dimensions make it one of the biggest buildings in Europe.
Massimiliano Fuksas conceived the site on the outskirts of the city as a new landscape with its own geography.
Fuksas derived the form from constant altimetric variations as found in the natural landscape in the form of ‘craters’, ‘waves’ and ‘dunes’.
The project is structured by a central axis that connects the service centres, offices and the exhibition halls.
The whole complex is covered by a vast roof – an undulating lightweight structure, with a surface area exceeding 46.000 square metres, over 1300 metres long and approximately 32 metres wide.
Made up of a reticular rhomboidal mesh structure in prefinished steel profiles, it is connected via spherical nodes and covered with laminated glass attached via plates to the profiles below.
It is supported by 183 steel columns 500 mm. in diameter which branch into smaller supporting arms above 12 metres.
