Kettal the leading Spanish outdoor furniture company, again displayed their newest collections in a striking cubist styled stand designed by Patricia Urquiola.
The full stand was made in-house at Kettal in Barcelona and trucked over to Milan,
It was a continuation of their minimalist themed urban structures” as seen in previous Fairs This time it was represented by a more “Multi-residential ” multi dimensional style – as opposed to the 2012 Salone when Urquiola developed a ” Terrace Housing” concept.
.
Urquiola has created an environment where collection settings were separated both for visual aesthetics as well as for dealer presentations and client meetings

Patricia Urquiola for Kettal
The high-profile, Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola has collaborated once again with Spanish outdoor furniture company Kettal. She has designed a good-looking, innovative range of rugs for outdoor spaces.
Kettal, which two years ago won Spain’s prestigious National Design Award, has always prided itself as much on technical innovation as on aesthetics, and it worked with Urquiola over a very long period of time to develop the fabric she envisaged.
” My intention was to have a seat and back similar to taut netting – a soft and pleasant grid in three dimensions, which we have achieved after two years’ research,”
The rugs are made using an innovative, exclusive fabric called Nido d’Ape (which forms a honeycomb texture / pattern) It is made by a machine that knots PVC in a way that resembles macrame.
This is a woven, 3D fabric made of PVC with exceptional technical qualities: it’s highly breathable and resistant to friction, chemicals and ultraviolet rays. It’s also totally washable. Very comfortable underfoot, the rugs come in four colour combinations: brown, grey, beige and red.
Urquiola has been collaborating with Kettal for several years: she created the current Kettal outdoor furniture collections Maia, Vieques and Cottage for the company.
All these collections demonstrate Patricia Urquiola’s endeavours to use materials best suited to each design, as well as a predilection for combining high-tech and innovative materials with traditional, hand-crafting manufacturing techniques.
