Knoll, renowned for its collection of classic and enduring designs, presented new seating collections by Jehs+Laub, and Marc Krusin at the Salone 2011. Knoll products feature furniture for the home and workplace that combines a Modernist aesthetic and innovative construction and materials, designed with a versatile residential appeal.
Marc Krusin
Marc Krusin graduated in the UK, and after placements with Fred Scott and George Sowden, he began his career in Milan collaborating with various studios. These include Piero Lissoni’s office, where he became design manager and associate, running projects for clients of international reputation.
In 1998 he co-founded the Milan based group Codice 31, which in successive years gained increasing importance in the design world. In 1999 Marc began designing products and furniture for industrial production while also working on projects of a more experimental nature such as those for Opos in Milan and Stylepark in Germany.
Krusin Seating Collection
Chairs are often focal points within an interior. They are movable. They may find themselves positioned randomly within a space. There may be several or even many of them. It is fundamental that a chair be able to harmonise with its surroundings. The more visually silent and harmonious the chair, the more spaces it is able to harmonise with. The visual silence of a space depends upon, amongst other things, its lack of clutter and its visual cleanliness, which in turn depends on the visual silence of the objects which inhabit it. To achieve an inherent and graceful visual silence has therefore been of prime importance in the designing of this collection. Wood is a noble, traditional material, so what better way to approach the design of a side chair than using a traditional, noble material shaped and detailed with contemporary technology whilst maintaining a simple, linear, almost archetypal overall form and outline, whilst at the same time being extremely attentive to the proportions and detailing which of course, are the chair
Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub
Renowned for their modern classic furniture and lighting as well as their innovative interior projects, most notably Suite 606 at the Ice Hotel in Northern Sweden and the worldwide concept for Mercedes-Benz®showrooms, Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub live and work in Stuttgart, Germany. After attending Germany’s prestigious School of Design, the FHfG Schwabisch Gmund, the team cemented their partnership during an internship in New York, later founding Jehs+Laub in 1994. The design team has been the recipient of numerous awards.
Jehs + Laub Lounge Collection
Inspired by traditional quilting, the Jehs+Laub Collection—which includes a Lounge Chair and accompanying Ottoman—offers a tactile dialogue between functional form and sculptural shape. Compromised of block patterns that are joined and completed with a surrounding border, it weds craftsmanship with distinctive style. The Collection is appropriate as a statement piece for reception areas, private offices, break areas or residences, offering a welcoming retreat whether one is working, relaxing or even napping. The upholstery process used to create the Jehs+Laub Collection utilizes hidden seam tufting, a technique which creates a clean, tufted surface without the need for traditional welts or buttons. The Lounge chair and Ottoman are available with a distinctive black pedestal or an architectural, dynamic wire base; an optional articulating back provides enhanced comfort. KnollTextiles fabrics or Spinneybeck leathers with a welt detail offer maximum versatility.
