Veuve Clicquot’s Origami Box @ Milan Design Week 2011

Veuve Clicquot and Belgian designer Mathias van de Walle have teamed up to create this special edition origami inspired box.

Clicq’Up is the first foldable Champagne bucket and is based on a concept of origami on ice, marrying form and function to create a contemporary, reusable design object that can be folded for easy transportation, set up, and storage.

Known for his simplistic and cost-efficient approach, the use of origami perfectly defines the designer’s vision. Mathias van de Walle’s design creates a playful home for the iconic sleek Yellow Label bottle.

The Clicq’Up box drew inspiration from Mathias’s earlier prototypes shown at  Milan Design Week in 2008

Up 2006 shown at Salone Milan 2008

Awarded a diploma in Interior Design and Design, from the College of Advertising and Design (CAD) Brussels in 2006.

Being a designer.

More than a profession, itʼs a passion, a way of life. Itʼs to constantly ask yourself “why and how”. Itʼs to reflect on our impact, analyse our ways of life. Itʼs the chance to be able to design the objects of tomorrow. A multi-facetted profession made up of encounters, journeys and lots of curiosity.

Designing.

I love the idea of destroying stereotypes inked in us, to create objects imbued with sensitivity. Honest fair products with a universal language.

Lightness.

My approach favours modularity and flexibility, volumes that can be flattened like a leaf. The objects I create are above all practical, easy to assemble and designed to the transported in an eco-friendly and economical manner. Itʻs important to plan the product and its packaging from the stock to the user.

The Clicq’Up is a fully-folding champagne bucket: it goes from 2D to 3D in a click. Arranged within a compartment of the box that holds the champagne bottle, it follows it everywhere.
