Savion Glover @ Bare Soundz for Spring Dance

Savion Glover @ Bare Soundz for Spring Dance

The world’s greatest tap dancer, Savion Glover, makes his Australian debut as part of the Sydney Opera House’s Spring Dance – four weeks of artistry athleticism and grace from the world’s most exciting choreographers and dancers.

In Bare Soundz, the musical choreography is organized around successive trios. Perched on three resonant wooden platforms, three men engage in a six-footed game, Marshall L. Davis and Maurice Chestnut take up the same sequence in counterpoint or unison.

In his first ever visit to Australia, Bare Soundz is a rare opportunity for lovers of dance to see this master of tap perform. Savion Glover has redefined tap, taking it way beyond its old-fashioned image, adapting it to the rhythms of contemporary jazz and hip-hop. Watch the Bare Sounz trio engage in a six-footed game – tapping out a bass rhythm with one foot and then simultaneously overlaying complex riffs with the other.

Having started his professional career at the age of 12, alongside Sammy Davis Jr., Glover is regarded as one of the greatest revolutionaries of the genre, taking it way beyond its old-fashioned image, adapting it to the rhythms of contemporary jazz and hip-hop.

Glover lent his feet to the film Happy Feet.
