It was the turn of Milan to triumphantly hosted the touring exhibition “The Little Black Dress: Chanel’s Classic Revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld.”
Karl Lagerfeld officially “cut the red tape” at the Milan photo exhibition, held at the Rotonda di Via Besana in Milan, an 18th-century historian who, besides being one of the most important architectural monuments of the Lombard capital, is also a location for an artistic performance by Chanel.
A grand opening for an iconic exhibition welcomed the numerous guests – almost entirely in black and white – to celebrate the opening of The Little Black Jacket exhibition, displaying the 113 shots through which Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld captured the many renditions and re-interpretations of the jacket designed by Gabrielle Coco Chanel.
The photo exhibition emphasizes the universality of the Chanel jacket, one of the most legendary and timeless pieces in fashion.
Chanel’s “The Little Black Jacket” exhibition, which had previously already shown in Tokyo, Sydney, Berlin, London, landed in Milan for the Salone (two-week stop ) before travellng onwards to Dubai later this month.
Chanel likes to tout itself as the kind of brand that spans the generational divide ie a 20-year-old can pair with motorcycle boots and a dash of innocence – while her 70-year-old grandmother dons head-to-toe and tops off with a fresh set of pearls.
Guests dodged raindrops and hustled inside the historic Rotonda della Besana in Milan, where black-and-white portraits of celebrities wearing Chanel’s iconic tweed jacket lined the walls.

Although during 2012 the exhibition presented elsewhere around the world, for this special event in Milan, previously unpublished photos taken by Lagerfeld were included.
113 photographs were taken for the book of the same name, where Karl Lagerfeld once again has focused his lens on about twenty international celebrities, but also friends of maison française, like Keira Knightley, Diane Kruger, Carla Bruni and Carole Bouquet, celebrities and film that, great enthusiasm, have interpreted “The Little Black Jacket”, depending on your style of personality and attitudes

The champagne flowed in the glasses and, embellished with white roses, the darkened Fire Engraving Room hosted a selection of pictures: a truly special event.
