Some of the most well-known architects and designers gathered at the Bulgari Hotel in Milan on Monday to celebrate the launch of the New York Times T Magazine spring design issue – “on taste and beauty”

The guest list read like a who’s who in design and fashion: Jean Nouvel, Tom Dixon, Ron Arad, Philippe Starck, Ronan Bouroullec, Lindsey Adelman, Francesco Bonami, Carolina Castiglioni, Umit Benan and Francesco Missoni, to name but a few.

The party, was hosted by T’s new editor-in-chief Deborah Needleman and Gilt Home creative director Tom Delevan who mingled easily with guests.

Though the two once worked together at Domino magazine, it was Needleman’s first time attending Milan’s Design Week exhibitions and furniture fair: “I’m doing it like speed-fire,” she said. “I’m going to try to see as much as I possibly can.”

Needleman said: “For this issue, I had this idea about the design of an actress ( Julianne Moore ) — how an actress designs her image, so not to just do furniture, but people, and taste, and the designing of ideas and images. Another time we’ll do a room or a sofa.”

It wouldn’t be Design Week in Milan without intermittent rain clouds, which is why guests at the T Magazine party on Monday didn’t spend much time in the gardens at the Bulgari Hotel, preferring instead to congregate around the bar indoors.

The theme of the party was Garden Mania, which was inspired by a story in the issue. The courtyard had a lighting sculpture by Lee Broom, and inside, the T logo was designed by Tom Delavan.
