Like every year, this April – from the 14th to the 19th –the fairgrounds of Rho will come alive with the international home furniture showrooms, and the biennial exhibitions dedicated to the Kitchen and Bathroom. Like always, the showrooms not only have something to offer commercially, but also culturally, and this year more than ever with events scattered all over Milan from March to May.
Alongside the exhibitions at the fairgrounds, this year an exceptional number of related events have been planned.
Four expositions based on the production of furniture and objects, on the kitchen, the bathroom and the project will be housed in 8 important institutions in Milan: from the historic Villa Reale and Brera Picture Gallery to the nineteenth-century Poldi Pezzoli and Bagatti Valsecchi house museums; from the Planetarium donated to the city by Ulrico Hoepli in 1929 to Casa Boschi Di Stefano, both designed by Piero Portaluppi; and from Villa Necchi Campiglio, an urban treasure from the 1930s, to the contemporary Bovisa Triennale.
Together, the fairground expositions and these satellite events form a “concentration” of culture and projects, a true “City of Showrooms.”
At the Rho Fiera fairgrounds in Milan, 2,500 exhibitors will occupy over 211,500 square meters of expository space for the 49th edition of the International Furniture Trade Fair, with Eurocucina / International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition and its external event FTK, the International Bathroom Furniture Exhibition, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and the SaloneSatellite (the “SatelliteShowroom”).
Within the city, the showrooms will be present through the following events:
“Unexpected Guests. Yesterday’s Homes, Today’s Designs.”
March 11 – May 2
Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, and Museum Boschi Di Stefano and Villa Necchi Campiglio
The exhibition organized by Historic House Museums of Milan in collaboration with Cosmit aims to bring contemporary design inside the four “House Museums” – in order to place the characteristics of our times alongside those of past eras, exploring the possibility of combining today’s projects with yesterday’s for surprisingly natural results.
“Everyone to the table!”
April 14 – May 9
Villa Reale, Via Palestro
An excursion into the world of “being at the table,” disjoined and celebrated in its different moments through its places and tools, for example: food preparation/cuisine; setting the table/furnishings and decoration; the home/ everyday meals; special occasions/banquets; the restaurant/the pleasures of the table, etc.
“A celestial bathroom”
April 14 – April 19
Ulrico Hoepli Planetarium, Public Gardens
An invitation to rediscover the bathroom as a place of harmony and well-being through the beauty of the female body and of the starry sky.
“The Hand of the Designer”
April 10 – May 9
Villa Necchi Campiglio and Triennale Bovina
“The Hand of the Designer” is devoted to authentic drawings and sketches by designers from all over the world at the FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano. Some of the 450 drawings on display will be auctioned off to raise funds, while others will be sold directly to finance the restoration and maintenance of Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan and to open the Olivetti store in Venice, founded by Carlo Scarpa between 1957 and 1958.
Don’t miss this City of Showrooms, with the wonderful quality and variety of its displays
